2013 IronBirds Roster: Position Players

Now that you’ve seen the pitching staff, lets take a look at the position players in camp for the IronBirds. Keep in mind this isn’t official, more players are sure to be added to the roster before Monday Night’s season opener.

– C Austin Wynns: A 10th round pick out of Fresno State in this year’s draft, the 22-year-old was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs and hit .279 with 3 HR and 24 RBI in 2012.

– C Tanner Murphy: A 22nd round pick in 2010, the 20-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, played for the GCL Orioles from 2010-2012.

– C Scott Kalush: A 39th round pick out of UC Davis in 2012, the 23-year-old played in 35 games for the IronBirds last season.

– C Jack Graham: A 38th round pick out of Kenyon College in 2012, the 23-year-old played all of last season with the GCL Orioles.

1B Trey Mancini: An 8th round pick in this year’s draft, the 21-year-old was a star for the Fighting Irish. In 2013, Mancini hit a ridiculous .389 with 7 HR and 54 RBI while boasting a phenomenal .431 OBP.

-INF Kris Richards: Signed as a non-drafted FA in 2012 out of UNC Greensboro, the 23-year-old played in 41 games with the GCL Orioles and Aberdeen in 2012.

-3B Hector Veloz: Signed in 2010, the promising 19-year-old hit .268 with 3 HR and 19 RBI in 2012 for the GCL Orioles and Aberdeen IronBirds.

-INF Jeff Kemp: A 33rd round pick out of Radford University in this year’s draft, the 23-year-old hit .284 with 10 HR and 34 RBI in 45 games for the Highlanders in 2013.

– OF Manny Hernandez: Signed in 2009, the 20-year-old is a native of Guatemala and hit .221 with 3 HR and 23 RBI in 61 games between the GCL Orioles and the IronBirds in 2012.

– OF/C/INF Sam Kimmel: An 18th round pick in 2012 out of Stetson University, Kimmel was the IronBirds Catcher last season. The 23-year-old hit .282 with 3 HR and 18 RBI while earning a NYPL All-Star selection for Aberdeen in 2012.

– OF George Barber: Originally a 43rd round pick by the Angels in 2010, Barber signed as a minor league FA in 2012. Barber did not play in 2011 or 2012. The 23-year-old returns to join the IronBirds in 2013.

– OF Anthony Vega: A 30th round pick in 2012 out of Manhattan College, the 22-year-old hit .194 with 4 HR, 17 RBI and 14 SB for the IronBirds in 2012. Vega also played for the Delmarva ShoreBirds earlier in 2013 and hit .211 with 8 RBI and 4 SB.

– OF Mike Yastrzemski- The grandson of Carl Yastrzemski. Yastrzemski was a 14th round pick out of Vanderbilt in 2013, where he had an impressive stat line, hitting .312 with 3 HR and 43 RBI. Look out for the 22-year-old Yastrzemski to have a big impact on the IronBirds this season.

This is a 2013 IronBirds team that has some good young players with bright futures, like Mancini, Yastrzemski, Kimmel, Wynns, and Veloz to name a few. IronBirds fans should look for a potent offense in 2013, and that is something to be excited about heading into this season!
